Rush Coasters
Woven rush coasters available to order in a set of two or four. Handmade by award winning basketmaker Ella Merriman.
Rush weaving and basketry is an endangered craft in the UK, with very few practitioners remaining. Ella fell in love with rush the first time she worked with it and describes her creative process as a collaboration between herself and the material. As no human is the same, neither are the rush stems and Ella chooses to respect each one, working symbiotically with the plant to craft each piece.
Although the scale and design will match the imagery above, no two products are ever the same. Ella celebrates this originality and hopes that you will too.
MATERIALS:
100% Bulrush. The colours of the rush will vary but will generally be green initially and slowly mellow to a more golden tone over time.
Wipe with a damp cloth to clean and leave to air-dry. As this is an organic product, ensure it is not stored in damp conditions.
MEASUREMENTS:
Approximately 10 cm in diameter.

Our name Couper -et- Coudre comes from the French verbs meaning 'to cut' & 'to sew' and gives a nod to our handcrafted philosophy. A desire to work in a sustainable way and create items that are well made and will stand the test of time.
With a belief that our environment has the power shift our mood and when created mindfully can increase feelings of well-being, we believe in surrounding ourselves with pieces we love and that 'beautiful objects with a purpose' can elevate our everyday. The most cherished things we own all have a good story and great craftsmanship behind them.
